5 Signs You Need Asphalt Paving Repair

by | Aug 23, 2017 | Asphalt

If you have an asphalt driveway or lot, you already know how reliable asphalt can be. However, over time your lot will experience wear and tear, resulting in the need for paving repairs. To know when to seek repairs, you’re going to need to know which signs to look for and where. Here are five signs you need asphalt paving repair.

Cracks

One of the most obvious signs that asphalt paving repair is needed is the appearance of cracks in the asphalt. While some cracks can remain for years without causing any damage, some cracks such as alligator cracks (which span long distances) or cracks that are wide across and growing, can seriously damage the pavement and need repairs.

Warping

If you notice that the pavement seems uneven, perhaps from heavy vehicles or an uneven base, this could mean the asphalt is warped, and needs to be leveled out through asphalt paving repair. Doing so increases the lifespan of the pavement overall.

Discoloration

Though poured black, pavement is susceptible to discoloration from the sun or stains. Chemical stains can often soak through and compromise the inner pavement, while sun discoloration can make the asphalt brittle. Both issues should addressed as soon as they’re noticed.

Undermining

While most of the problems mentioned above occur at the service of the pavement, undermining occurs below. When a pipe cracks or becomes loose, soil enters it and undermines the surface above. The right service like Colt Concrete & Asphalt will need to dig down to fix this problem before replacing the asphalt.

Crumbling Edges

If you notice any of the edges of your pavement crumbling and leaving debris, it’s time for paving repairs. Such debris can be dangerous to step or drive on, and the crumbling could result in widening cracks, so getting these areas of damage replaced is definitely recommended.
